Nevada — Code Adoption Summary

Adoption model: Home-rule / county-based — no single statewide code for private construction; the state's own adoption (via Public Works Board) applies only to state-owned land. Local adoption (the reality for nearly all private construction)

  • Clark County (Las Vegas metro): adopted 2024 IBC, all new permits must demonstrate 2024 IECC compliance, effective 2026-01-11.
  • Regional adoption committees prepare "blended" amendment packages; counties/cities then formally adopt locally — expect Clark, Washoe (Reno), and others to differ somewhat from each other and from the state scope table above.

Adoption model & precedence

  • Energy code: the one family with a genuine statewide mandate (locals must adopt the latest IECC) — reasonably reliable to cite as current-ish, but confirm the exact edition locally.
  • Everything else (building/electrical/plumbing/mechanical): local county/city is the AHJ — the state table above does NOT apply to private construction outside state-owned land.

AHJ fallback (when local adoption is unverified)

  • Certain-ish floor: statewide mandate to adopt the latest IECC (energy only).
  • Everything else: confirm directly with the county/city — Clark County is the best-documented (2024 IBC/IECC, eff. 2026-01-11); other counties may differ.

Change log

  • 2026-07-03 — created; verified state-owned-land scope (NEC 2023, 2024 IBC/UPC/UMC/IECC) vs. Clark County's own 2024 IBC/IECC (eff. 2026-01-11); confirmed statewide IECC-adoption mandate.
